17 November 2017

A not so good week, just not bad enough to sell. The sum of all the deviations has been 799, 731, and now 712.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 22, 13, and now 09.

Two weeks ago thought I had input the wrong data, using the Thursday close instead of Friday. Last week I very carefully made sure the Fidelity reported numbers had the correct date. They had the correct date, but the wrong data. One of my email readers reported he called Fidelity to point out the error. Seems they are slow updating the Friday numbers and do not seem at all concerned about the complete lack of accuracy of their data. I have corrected the last week numbers in this report. Not much change and no buy or sell changes.
Tonight I called Fidelity since Yahoo had the correct numbers for Fidelity funds but Fidelity did not. I had created a watch list at Fidelity and all the numbers were correct, so I updated my numbers. However the Fidelity lists on their web site for all Fidelity funds are Thursday’s numbers even though the date says today. She said she would report it.

This is an intereting seminar from Investors Business Daily – https://www.investors.com/ibd-videos/?cvid=2661266&src=A012GE5

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 97.47, a 50 day MA of 96.07, and a 200 day MA of 92.46.
The ETFs for S&P500 (capializationWeighted) index is SPY, and for the Nasdaq 100 (ModifiedCapitalizationWeighted) index is QQQ. Over the last year RSP is up 11%, SPY is up 14%, QQQ is up 23% RSP generally does better than SPY but not when 5 or 10 stocks are pulling up the whole index. QQQ is one of the ETFs available in the Florida retirement system – in the Florida retirement system you can have your funds in a defined benefit plan (like the ones blowing up in many states) or a defined contribution plan (you control the investments). I know some who are invested in QQQ for their Florida retirement plan and watching it closely. Some companies are advanced enough to even allow ETFs in their 401ks (but not HRBlock).

10 November 2017

A not so good week, just not bad enough to sell. The sum of all the deviations has been 765, 799, and now 744.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 15, 22, and now 12.
So last weekend I forgot the date, thought Friday was 11/02, and thus ended up using the wrong closing numbers. I have fixed this week’s report to correctly report results based on the correct numbers for last week. I’d like to blame it on Fidelity, but I think the error was all mine. The results were not significant with no change in buy or sell. Feel free to let me know if you find any errors in this report.

The Trump market rally is now a year old. The DJIA index (ETF DIA) is up 30%, the S&P500 index (ETF SPY) is up 23%, and the Nasdaq 100 (ETF QQQ) is up 32%. Generally the first year of any president’s term is a down market year. For whatever reason it has not happened, yet. I have been convinced for some time it will happen soon, I just do not know how soon. Please watch your investments. In my 20 Oct I provided a URL to a youtube video. The title of the video was Edge of The Cliff. I’ve been watching it again and was impressed with the fact that Real Vision produced the video to warn investors. They had the same warnings in 2008 but the media, banks, and brokers were not interested. I have not heard about from the media, banks, or brokers this time either.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 96.90, a 50 day MA of 95.65, and a 200 day MA of 92.22

My current investments:
IRA#1 and IRA#2 – STechnology has a price of 191.04, a sell price 181.49, a rank of 03, and is a hold. (ETF – CQQQ)
IRA#2
SSemiconductors has a price of 125.71, a sell price 119.42, a rank of of 01, and is a hold. (ETF – PSI)
ChinaRegion has a price of 35.69, a sell price 33.91, a rank of 02, and is a hold. (ETF – CXSE)
EmergingMarketsIndex – IC has a price of 11.33, a sell price 10.76, and a rank of 08, and is a hold. (ETF – EEMO)
I generally do my own ETF analysis Sunday evenings. I have been too busy lately to do part of it earlier, so I am going to let you compute your owns stoploss levels. I use 7% from the latest high close, but that is just a percentage which I think works for me.

03 November 2017

A sort of good week, just not quite good enough to buy. The sum of all the deviations has been 810, 765, and now 779.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 10, 15, and now 12.
It looks like on last week’s report, I did not know what month it was. The return numbers and balances I quoted were all for September.

On The Dutram Report (19Oct) podcasts from Zacks Investment Research Eric Dutram suggests 5 ETFs to Buy and Hold for 5 years. He suggests SNSR (Global X Internet of Things ETF), ASHR (Deutsche X-trackers Harvest CSI China A ETF). EES (Wisdon Tree US SmallCap Earnings ETF), EZU (iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF), KRE (SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF). Eric Dutram has been at Zacks many years and just left. I went looking for were is going next, but Facebook only contains pictures about his current tour of Europe. He seems to like beer.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 96.73, 50 day MA of 95.17, a 200 day MA of 91.99, and a 7% stop loss is 90.59.

My current investments:
IRA#1 and IRA#2 – STechnology has a price of 189.23, a sell price 179.77, a rank of 02, and is a hold. (ETF – CQQQ – stoploss 56.56)
IRA#2
SSemiconductors has a price of 122.06, a sell price 115.96, a rank of of 01, and is a hold. (ETF – PSI stoploss 50.31)
ChinaRegion has a price of 34.93, a sell price 33.18, a rank of 03, and is a hold. (ETF – CXSE- stoploss 77.22 )
EmergingMarketsIndex – IC has a price of 11.29, a sell price 10.73, and a rank of 10, and is a hold. (ETF – EEMO – stoploss 21.22)
I sold SBiotechnology for a loss of 3.34% and the ETF was sold for a loss of 4.33%. The mutual fund did better than the ETF this time.

27 October 2017

Not a good week week, maybe time to sell something. The sum of all the deviations has been 825, 810, and now 765.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 37, 10, and now 15.

On Erik Townsend’s 21Sep Macro Vision podcast, he interviewed Mark Grant. They discussed the pension crisis indicating it is mathematically impossible for many state pensions and even some private pensions to pay the retirees the retirement they promised. They just do not have enough assets in the pension plan and most are counting on a 7%+ annual rate of return. California is decreasing (some by 100%) the pensions of various municipal retirees who did not have fully fund pensions. The other 10 worst states are New Jersey, Kentucky, Illinois, Connecticut, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, South Carolina, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. These states are in worst condition this year then last year due to increased liabilities. Even Florida, not one of the 10 worst, is counting on a 7.6% return (in the latest annual reporting the return was 0.54%) and if they get it, expect to be able to pay only 85.4% on it’s pension obligations. Obviously no one should count on any promised pension.

13 October 2017

Another good week, time to buy something. The sum of all the deviations has been 726, 799, and now 823.
The twice a week report I am still getting from James Rohrbach, Investment-Models.com, still says buy NYSE and buy Nasdaq. He has had the same buy signals since 8-31-17.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 27, 49, and now 37.

Fidelity did not have an up to date distribution list this week and some of their funds had distributions. Not only that, when you reviewed details about the individual fund, the distribution was not listed there either. It did show up in the daily quote list, but only listed it as a dividend. Fund distributions can be dividends, capital gains, interest, and other, a total number is needed. When I called Fidelity they had no excuse (AGAIN).

On the 05Oct Super Investors podcast by Jesse Felder, the guest Danielle DiMartio Booth was commenting on the federal reserve board (FED) where she previoulsy worked. She pointed out that all of FED managers have come from academia with NO private enterprise experience. She refered to the current bubbles in everything and indicate when the confidence bubble finally bursts, all the other bubbles will – markets, home mortgages, debt, home prices, etc. Capitalism requires creative destruction (bankruptcy) of those companies which cannot make it. However the FED with their zero interest rates have eliminated creative destruction by allowing companies, which should be bankrupt, borrow at excessively low interest rates to stay in business. She points out when the bubbles start to burst, the public will by complaining loudly cause the DC idiots (also known as the executive, legislative, and judicial branch who do nothing) to demand the FED to save us by printing more money. Thus the bubble gets bigger and the end results worse. Another thing the excessively low interest rates have done is eliminate savings allowing companies borrow more and thus pay their executives more. Savings from the middle class into the income of the richer class.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 96.54, 50 day MA of 93.85, a 200 day MA of 91.23, and a 7% stop loss is 89.92.

My current investments:
IRA#1 and IRA#2 – STechnology has a price of 183.99, a sell price 174.79, a rank of 02, and is a hold. (ETF – CQQQ – stoploss 55.73)
IRA#2
SSemiconductors has a price of 115.18, a sell price 100.42, a rank of of 10, and is a hold. (ETF – PSI forgot to buy this but will this Monday)
OTCPortfolio has a price of 106.37, a sell price 101.05, a rank of 22, and is a sell. (ETF – MTUM – stoploss 90.47 )
EmergingMarketsIndex – IC has a price of 11.28, a sell price 10.72, and a rank of 04. (ETF – EEMO – stoploss 19.64)
SBiotechnology – has a price of 231.35, a sell price 223.65, a rank of 13, and is a hold. (ETF – SBIO – stoploss 29.69)
Since it is a buy week, and OTCPortfolio is not one of my top 20 funds so I am selling it and investing in ChinaRegion. The only problem with ChinaReqion is that it has a early selling fee of 1.5% if sold withing 90 days of the purchase.

IRA #2 – exchange OTCPortfolio into ChinaReqion

06 October 2017

It was a good week, time to buy something. The sum of all the deviations has been 725, 726, and now 799.
The twice a week report I am getting from James Rohrbach, Investment-Models.com, still says buy NYSE and buy Nasdaq. This is the same as last week. I signed up for his free two month report.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 41, 27, and now 49.

On the 21 September podcast from Adventures in Finance, Jim Rogers talks about his trips around the world and the way he invests. He thinks China has the best markets in the future, he hopes he can sell out if a bubble bursts, and then buy back in near the bottom. It is interesting that during the market crash on 19 October 1987, he was short and thus made money when the market fell by 22% in one day. Investopedia.com claims “The cause of the stock market crash of 1987 was primarily program trading, used by institutions to protect themselves from significant market weakness. Some secondary factors included excessive valuations, illiquid markets and market psychology.” Sounds sort of like the market today.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 96.49, 50 day MA of 93.58, a 200 day MA of 90.98, and a 7% stop loss is 89.92.

My current investments:
IRA#1 and IRA#2 – STechnology has a price of 181.80, a sell price 172.71, a rank of 05, and is a hold. (ETF – CQQQ – current stoploss 54.76)
IRA#2
SComputers has a price of 90.04, a sell price 85.54, a rank of of 57, and is a sell for a better fund. (ETF – PSI – stopped out 6/12 11% gain)
OTCPortfolio has a price of 105.84, a sell price 100.55, a rank of 17, and is a hold. (ETF – MTUM – stoploss 90.29)
EmergingMarketsIndex – IC has a price of 11.05, a sell price 10.50, and a rank of 07. (ETF – EEMO – stoploss 19.24)
SBiotechnology – has a price of 235.42, a sell price 223.65, a rank of 04, and is a hold. (ETF – SBIO – stoploss 29.69)
Since it is a buy week, and SComputers is not one of my top 20 funds so I am selling it and investing in SSemiconductors. SSemiconductors is only the #8 best fund, but it is the second highest ranking “buy” fund in my top 20. The highest ranking “buy” fund is SBiotechnology which I own. The other 6 funds ranking higher than SSemiconductors do not have a 2 week improved deviation – an indication their price increase may be slowing.

My portfolio changes this weekend:
IRA #1 – None
IRA #2 – Purchase SSemiconductors from SComputers

My portfolio market exposure after this weekend’s changes:
IRA #1 – 100% invested
IRA #2 – 100% invested

29 September 2017

It was a good week, just barely short of a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 731, 695, and now 726.
The twice a week report I am getting from James Rohrbach, Investment-Models.com, still says buy NYSE and buy Nasdaq. This is the same as last week. I signed up for his free two month report.
The number of funds I rate as buy over the last 3 weeks has been 24, 41, and now 27.
66% of the stocks on the NYSE are bullish and 62% of the stocks on the Nasdaq are bullish. Those numbers are within a couple percent of the previous peaks. So the market is near a high based on this indicator.

On the 14Sep Money Life show, Chuck Jaffe featured an interview with credit expert Gerri Detweiler discussing the Equifax data breach. The discussion started at about 15 minutes into the show. Ms. Detweiler suggested freezing your credit accounts at the three credit bureaus may not be the best thing to do. She has placed a fraud alert on her accounts. I did a check with Equifax, found out my data was stolen, signed up for their free credit protection, and placed a free 90 day fraud alert on my accounts. Since my wife has a better credit score than I do, I plan to do the same for her. If you have children, you may want to check them also. One of the points Ms. Detweiler made was that this data (mother’s maiden name, previous address, drivers licence numbers, etc.) is generally data which does not change and can be used in a couple of years as easily as it can be used today. You can get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com – so if you get one today from Equifax, you can request another one from Experian in 4 months, then Transunion 4 months later, and Equifax again 4 months later.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 95.54, 50 day MA of 93.34, a 200 day MA of 90.74, and a 7% stop loss is 88.85.

22 September 2017

It was an OK week, not bad enough to sell and just barely short of a buy. The sum of all the deviations has been 643, 731, and this week 695.
The twice a week report I am getting from James Rohrbach, Investment-Models.com, says buy NYSE and buy Nasdaq.
Last week 25 funds were rated buy due to a two week improving deviation. This week the number is 41.
If it had been a buy week, I would have sold SComputers – lowest rank of the funds I own – and purchased SDefense&Aerospace.
While LatinAmerican and ChinaReqion have higher ratings than SDefense&Aerospace, their deviation (uptrend momentum) is decreasing.
Last week I made error when I overlooked a distribution for OTCPortfolio. I have updated last week’s numbers below.

August returns for IRA#1 4%, IRA#2 2%, QQQ 2%, SPY/RSP -1% – not a bad month.
For the last 3 months, IRA#1 7%, IRA#2 1%, QQQ 4%, SPY/RSP 2%
For the last 6 months, IRA#1 5%, IRA#2 3%, QQQ 13%, SPY/RSP 3%
For the last 12 months, IRA#1 9%, IRA#2 10%, QQQ 26%, SPY/RSP 12%
July portfolio changes:
IRA#1 – None – Invested 100% in FSPTX
IRA#2 – Sold FDLSX on 01Aug, Purchased FPEMX on 18Aug. Invested 20% in FSELX, FDCPX, FSPTX, FPEMX, and in cash
QQQ – None – Invested 100% in QQQ
SPY/RSP – None – Invested 100% in RSP

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of 94.55, 50 day MA of 93.17, a 200 day MA of 90.54, and a 7% stop loss is 87.93.

15 September 2017

So hurricane Irma killed the power at my house and the UVerse from ATT (Phone, cable, internet).
The power came back in 2 days. The UVerse has now been out 7 days and waiting – no phone, cable, or internet.
The office where I work has only half power so no air, no work stations, and only some lights. I go in every day to see if there has been a change. The whole mall is that way with half power (7 days and counting) except for Publix with its own generator. The Food Shack restaurant is serving out of a food trunk in the parking lot.

All in all a good week in the market. I waited longer to finish this in hope of getting UVerse back – I am not thrilled with ATT

So I have had only limited access to get some data and only worked to the the vital numbers. The rest of the numbers I hope to have back by next week, unless Maria hits.

My S&P500 investment is in RSP (S&P500 EqualWeighted) which has a price of ??, 50 day MA of ??, a 200 day MA of ??, and a 7% stop loss is ??.
