15 June 2018

Not a bad week, not a good week, just an ok week. The sum of all the deviations has been 472, 583, and now 547 – not up 2 weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 24, 47, and now 30.
Time to sit back and see what happens next.

There is an interesting podcast, Odd Lots, and on their 14May podcast they discussed the problems with setting up a bitcoin ETF. Currently the only bitcoin “like” ETF is GBTC. The IRS had an interesting webinar this week on cryptocurrency. One of the ideas I found interesting was by using bitcoin mining computers, students at various colleges are mining in their dorm room. Seems the electricity is free and when you mine a bitcoin it is worth about 8k.

Each week I receive a couple of email from Weiss Rating. In their weekly summary the first article was titled “Housing Madness? It’s BBAAACCKKKKK…” where they point out the housing “prices have now topped the 2006 Bubble-Era peak by around 8%.”

IRA#1
SEnergy has a price of 46.29, a sell price 47.48, a rank of 42, and is a sell. (ETF – IEO, PXI – both stopped out)
IRA#2
SEnergy has a price of 46.29, a sell price 47.48, a rank of 42, and is a sell. (ETF – IEO, PXI – both stopped out)
SITServices has a price of 62.54, a sell price 59.41, a rank of 07, and is a hold. (ETF – XWEB, XITK)
SRetailing has a price of 15.69, a sell price 14.91, a rank of 01, and is a hold. (ETF – XRT, PEZ)
It was a bad week in energy. Oil and the oil related stocks took a hit and thus SEnergy declined before its sell price.

My mutual fund portfolio changes this weekend:
IRA #1 – Sell SEnergy
IRA #2 – Sell SEnergy

My mutual fund portfolio market exposure after this weekend’s changes:
IRA #1 – 00% invested
IRA #2 – 40% invested

08 June 2018

A good week, a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 453, 472, and now 583  – up 2 weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 08, 24, and now 47.
Time to buy.

So again Fidelity did not bother to update their list which says “Get information on the most recent dividends and capital gains for all funds managed by Fidelity.” I called, the rep and his boss did not have a clue. Like every other time they indicated they would put in a request to have current information on their website. So an 11 minute phone call and an hour looking at funds I think I have all the distribution. However, I may have missed some and will be checking Monday to make sure my numbers are correct. I would think that continually providing incorrect quotes should be an SEC violation.

On another subject I was asked about China or Japan ETFs. etfscreen.com > Performance – change the dolVol21 filter to zero, sort by the period of time desired and do a find on “China” (37 hits) and “Japan” (22 hits). None of them look very exciting to me. My rating on the Fidelity China and Japan funds are 37 and 76

IRA#1
SEnergy has a price of 48.39, a sell price 47.48, a rank of 04, and is a hold. (ETF – IEO, PXI – both stopped out)
IRA#2
SEnergy has a price of 48.39 a sell price 47.48, a rank of 04, and is a hold. (ETF – IEO, PXI – both stopped out)
SITServices has a price of 60.56, a sell price 57.53, a rank of 08, and is a hold. (ETF – XWEB, XITK)
SRetailing has a price of 15.43, a sell price TBD, a rank of 01, and is a Buy. (ETF – XRT, PEZ)
SRetailing is the number one fund, up two weeks in a row and is a buy. Last time I purchased SRetailing, I purchased ETF RTH. It is not performing well at this time.
SEnergy is still a hold. If it turns into a buy, I intend to buy the ETFs back.

IRA #2 – Purchase SRetailing.

My mutual fund portfolio market exposure after this weekend’s changes:

01 June 2018

A good week, almost a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 478, 453, and now 472 – not up 2 weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 30, 08, and now 24.
Another week like this week and it will be buy time. Most probably some technology fund.

On YouTube, Gerald Celente hosts his some of his The Trends Journal. His presentations are always interesting. It is worthwhile listening to his latest, June 01, video on the coming currency crashes – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3gO11o3d40 .

Also on YouTube, Jim Rogers has interesting views on North Korea and how he wants to there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHzcrEIBX5E .

Both of my energy ETFs were sold when the stop loss price was hit on 5/25. Both resulted in about a 1% gain on my investment. Perhaps the 7% stop loss limit is too small. If energy becomes a buy again, I will buy them back.

In April the market looked like it may be turning up and I purchased SEnergy.

On a topic unrelated to investing, I purchased some solar panels last year. My FPL billing month ended on 11May and last month I gave FPL more kilowatt hours than I received. My latest calculations indicate the panels should pay for themselves in less than 10 years. On my website, flynndj.com/solar.htm, more details are available – give them a call.

None of the ETFs I own have been sold based on a 7% stop loss order. The IEO and PXI (oil related) ETFs are nearing their stop loss sell limit but not there yet.

IRA#1
SEnergy has a price of 47.53, a sell price 47.48, a rank of 03, and is a hold. (ETF – IEO, PXI)

Not a good week, not a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 306, 511, and now 478  – not up 2 weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 15, 37, and now 30.

There is a show on TV network RT called the Keiser Report featuring Max Keiser. Mr. Keiser is very outspoken in his views, but he presented an analysis of the 2008/9 recession which was quite interesting. The recession was caused by the big banks leveraging themselves and creating junk securities called collateralized debt obligations. The victims of this recession were the millions who lost their jobs and their homes. So what did the government do – it spend billions savings the perpetrators of this crisis and ignoring the victims. Then with quantitative easing, continued to help the banks and hurt the savers. And what have the banks done since being saved – they have borrowed and releveraged themselves to an extent greater than before.

The rise in US interest rates is putting pressure on stock markets, especially those markets in emerging countries. The Argentina peso is down 17% over the last month and the Argentina stock market is down 12%. Obviously a recession is some countries is here and the higher the FED raises US interest rates the worse it will get. Not a good sign for the stock market.

11 May 2018

A good week, a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 307, 306, and now 511 – not up 2 weeks in a row but the previous two weeks are so close, I’m going to buy.
Each week I delete the lowest performing fund and add another fund based on last month’s performance. This tends to distort the exactness of the sum of all deviations.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 13, 5, and now 37.

The website https://wishingwealthblog.com/ produces a weekly, free email which provides some indicators of what the author thinks the market is doing. On their 04May post received on 06May their General Market Index(s) was a bullish 4 out of 6 indicators (4/6 – GMI) and was 7 out of 8 indicators (7/8 – GMI2). The email also presented two charts with a short discussion. The SPY (S&P500 ETF) is up against its descending down-trend and still below its 30 and 10 week averages – bearish. The QQQ (Nasdaq 100 ETF) is holding above its rising 30 and 10 week average – bullish. Not a strong view of a market trend.

This week the Fidelity’s list of fund prices indicated in the title it was updated for today prices at about 6pm. However until about 7:30pm the numbers were yesterdays. Be careful in looking at Fidelity’s website. They to not seen be too concerned about accuracy.

You still have time to sign up for Kaltbaum’s free (for a month) email service. Name, phone, and email address to gkaltbaum@kaltbaum.net. It may make you some money. Wednesday on his show the had Jim Rohrbach of investment-models.com. He said his numbers got him out of the end of January and back in Wednesday. He will sent you a free month of his biweekly report if you send him an email requesting it.

Not a good week, a do nothing week. The sum of all the deviations has been 367, 314, and now 306  – not up two weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 67, 13, and now 6.
Another not exciting week and not a buy week so I am buying nothing, selling nothing.

Last weekend I called Fidelity because the distributions were not reported and I had to check the individual fund – FDYSX – to learn the distribution. I called again on Monday – no change. Well it turns out the FDYSX – Fidelity Global Strategies Fund – which existed last Friday and had a distribution no longer exists. First the rep said it was closed to new investors. I suggested that there are dozens of other funds which are closes which are listed. Then he gave me the latest quote. I pointed out that was last Friday’s quote. He tried another suggestion or two but finally admitted it no longer existed and he did not know why. I have seen this with other Fidelity funds before. It would be nice if the Fidelity reps knew something about their own funds.

27 April 2018

Not a good week, a do nothing week. The sum of all the deviations has been 318, 367, and now 314 – not up two weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 04, 67, and now 13.
Another not exciting week and not a buy week so I am buying nothing, selling nothing.

I thought Fidelity had finally listened to my complaints (I gave up writing to Fidelity a long time ago, they ignore letters) because on the second week of April they had the distributions on Thursday so the list was complete and updated on Friday. In the past, often the Friday distributions did not get listed until the following Monday – not good for weekly weekend updating. However on 04/26, Thursday, they had some distributions but just could not get around to updating the list so the prices are suspect. Each week I add a fund from last month’s best performers, and drop the worst fund on my list so I only follow 100 funds. As I went to drop the worst performer this week, GlobalStrategies, I noticed it was down ~7% for the week. Not something which happens. So I looked up the fund details and it did have a distribution of 69.1 cents, a big percentage for a ~9 dollar fund. So I updated that fund with the distribution and removed another fund from my list after checking the funds details for distributions. It sure would be nice if Fidelity kept their website current!!!!

I received an email from Fidelity this week announcing their Wednesday sector performance webinar. It also contained a link to their sector evaluation website https://eresearch.fidelity.com/eresearch/markets_sectors/sectors/sectors_in_market.jhtml . Very interesting site – you can sort down to find the best performing ETFs based on various criteria. The two I invested in on Monday were on the first page of what they call their 4W/13W performance listing of 1700+ ETFs. Not sure how to use the page yet, but it looks interesting.

In the past, Gary Kaltbaum had a stock selecting service. He is starting it up again in a month or so and for the first month or so is free. Send your name, phone number, and email to Gary at gkaltbaum@kaltbaum.net asking to be up on the list for his new stock email service. If the stocks are profitable, you may want to pay for the service when the free period ends – cost unknown but free for a month or two

20 April 2018

A good week, a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 150, 318, and now 367 – weekly up two weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 07, 04, and now 67.
Not an exciting week, but the numbers say buy so I am buying.

Almost every day I get the opportunity to observe some bureaucratic stupidity. As most of you know, during tax season I work preparing taxes. On the last day I efile a return and with all the IRS problems it took until 9:30 pm to be accepted by the IRS, but it also included an Ohio state return. IRS and state returns are efiled at the same time but the state returns take several hours to get accepted. So this Ohio return arrived at 11 minutes after midnight and was rejected as being late. It should have been accepted with maybe a letter sent requesting a late payment fee – but accept the return. I am so glad Florida has no personal income returns.

In my opinion, the market is slowly forming a top. The volume of the latest up moves in not strong. SEnergy has been moving up fast and I only hope it continues. In addition to SEnergy, for my ETFs accounts I am buying two ETFs. While in the same industry, it does provide a small amount of diversification.

13 April 2018

A good week, not a sell week, not a buy week. The sum of all the deviations has been 248, 150, and now 318 – definitely not up two weeks in a row.
The number of funds I rate as a buy over the last 3 weeks has been 00, 07, and now 04.
All in all it was not a bad week. Now if we can get one more week, I should buy something.

There is another interesting podcast I’ve found. Charting Wealth provides a daily update on the market technical status based on candlestick analysis. I’ve not watched any of their YouTube education yet, but maybe after tax season.

Wealthrack on 13Apr presented a discussion by Matt Hougan on why cryptocurrencies may be the next big thing. There are 4 blockchain etfs – BLOK, BLCN, LEGR, and KOIN. The SEC is about to decide if it will allow a real bitcoin etf.
