Last week I screwed up. I did not provide the correct weekly numbers. The investment I made was still a valid selection although Nordic was a slightly better choice. The “Last Week” numbers this week are the correct numbers for last week.
This week 25 Fidelity Funds has distributions. Not only were the distribution not listed, they were not included in the fund’s detailed information. I called Fidelity once when the distribution list was not correct. I called Fidelity a second time when the fund’s detailed information was not correct. They agreed there were problems and they would report it. I told them it was the third time this year I’ve called and last December, after the first week, the numbers were never correct.
The 29Apr podcast of Consuelo Mack’s show, Wealthtrack, featured two personal retirement specialists. They had some interesting ideas including a couple of “rules” which are no longer correct. 1. The percentage of stock should be 100 minus your age with the rest in bonds. 2. Expect to take 4% per year out of your retirement assets for living expenses.
Another podcast which is great is MacroVoices. It is generally quite deep but very complete, informative, and educational. On the May 4th podcast Steve Keen indicate the current market is as massive overvalued as it was in 1929 but not quite as much as it was in 1999 – the only times the market has been this much overvalued before. Professor Keen indicates the future of the US economy is will be like the Japanese economy after 1990 due to the way the economy is being run by DC. On 1/1/1990, the Nikkei 225 index was at ~39,000. Now 27 years later the index is back to ~20,000 – unadjusted for inflation. And the economy of Japan as had the same rough ride. We can all thank DC for providing us with this same future.
MacroVoices on 11Mar had an interview with Dr. Lacy Hunt. Basically he said the same thing Steve Keen said the previous week. He covered a lot of history on how countries got out of excessive debt and at no time was going into more debt successful. The MacroVoices Research Roundup email each week contains details of the podcast and a large amount of additional, interesting research.
My S&P500 is in RSP (SPY EW) which has a price of 91.14, 50 day MA of 90.77, a 200 day MA of 86.43 and a 7% stop loss is 85.81. This is not an investment to buy and hold but then there are no investments to buy and hold. The general rule of thumb is: consider selling when an investment falls below its 50 week average and make sure you own nothing selling below both its 50 and 200 day moving average. When it fell below it’s 50 average twice within the last 30 days, I considered selling, but it had not fallen below the 7% stop loss.
