In early May 2017 I purchased some solar panels from SunTec Solar Energy - http://suntecsolarenergy.com/

The marketing manager is Derek Taylor – 561-536-8861

It came with a 30% credit on taxes for 2017.

You can get a loan for 70% of the price of the solar panels with payments starting after installation and a 30% loan at no interest payable a year later after you get the tax credit.

Give him a call – tell them I told you to call and I may get a referral fee.

Later I called The Solar Tax Association 866-780-5962, http://solartaxassociation.org/, and for a fee and with additional documentation they provided me with the complete tax forms to get me the 30% credit plus about 5K additional tax deduction – tell them I told you to call and I may get a referral fee.

The phone called covered the following:

How to file for and obtain the Federal 30% Solar Investment Tax Credit.

How to file for and obtain the State Solar Tax Credit where applicable (I found none in Florida).

Discussing what forms are required and when they need be filed to receive all incentives available to you, and how to best prepare them. They prepare the first year for you.

Then in January 2018 their tax service, Strategic Tax Services LLP 310-999-7066, mailed me the required forms to include in my 2017 taxes.

I talked to Glen VanDyke on 20Apr18 who said he would be glad to help anyone who called. His personal number is 801-874-2558.

There are three areas of savings:

1.     Power generated which is returned to Florida Power and Light.

2.     Power generated which I use for which Florida Power and Light does not bill.

3.     Tax savings on my annual 1040 tax return.

For 2017 bills ending with my 11 December FPL billing the total saved was $374 which included #1 savings of $94, #2 savings $226, and the 17+% surcharge/tax FPL adds to the bill. My 2017 #3 savings, tax savings, was $12,711.

For the first 5 months in 2018 ending with my 11 May 18 FPL billing the total saved was $1088 which included #1 savings of $311, #2 savings $618, and the 17+% surcharge/tax FPL adds to the bill.

At the current rate of FPL bill savings, the solar panels will pay for themselves in another 9.4 years.

An interesting part of the 11 May 18 FPL bill was that I provided more power to FPL than I received.

If you like to get billing details and frustrated, call FPL and asks how they calculate the 17+% surcharge/tax. The general answer I was told was that my city adds that fee to the bill. When I suggested I do not live in a city and I doubt my city sees my usage, she stuck to her story. A simple letter to the president of FPL got me a letter and the real answer. It is a little too complex to answer on the phone and I still do not live in a city and my city still does not see my usage.

When I get the opportunity, I will expand this to include more detail. 25May18
